This set of guided notes with biology doodles can be little anchor charts for your student to keep in their notebook! Using these pages, students can color, doodle, and make connections within the material as they takes notes in class.
There are 3 student pages:
1. A page with a summary of comparative genomics, introduction to phylogenetic trees, and the common genetic code.
2. A page about parts of a genome. This page discusses sequence conservation for coding and noncoding regions.
3. A page about Hox genes and how they are conserved in many species and affect development in embryos. This can even be a color-by-number activity! I adapted this diagram from an open access scientific journal article (I simplified it a little to make it easier to color.)
This topic is usually introduced in the evolution unit of biology class.
